Position Summary:

The Legal Assistant provides comprehensive support to attorneys in all aspects of family law
matters, including divorce, custody, child support, paternity, guardianship, contempt, and
adoption cases. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability
to work compassionately with clients during emotionally sensitive situations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Part time (20 – 30 hours per week Monday-Friday)
  • Hybrid: In-office and remote
  • Pay Range: $18 – $25 depending on experience and qualifications
  • Draft and prepare family law documents, including petitions, motions, affidavits,
    financial statements, parenting plans, and settlement agreements
  • Manage cases from intake through final resolution, ensuring files are accurate, organized,
    and up to date
  • Communicate regularly with clients, providing updates and gathering necessary
    information and documentation
  • Assist clients with completing financial affidavits and other court-required forms
  • Coordinate and schedule mediations, hearings, depositions, and attorney-client meetings
  • Prepare exhibits, discovery responses, and trial binders
  • File documents with the court using e-filing systems and ensure compliance with local
    rules and deadlines
  • Track deadlines, court dates, and statute requirements to ensure timely filings
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion
  • Participate in cross-training with other administrative team members to ensure seamless
    office operations, coverage across key functions, and flexibility in supporting team needs
  • Share reception phone coverage and consultation scheduling responsibilities with other
    administrative team members to ensure efficient coordination, timely responses, and
    professional client service
Qualifications, Skills, & Knowledge:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior experience in an office environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication and critical thinking skills
  • Acceptance and welcoming attitude towards all clients and co-workers, regardless of sex,

  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new systems and processes quickly

  • Proficiency in Google and Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiarity with legal software or other CRM (e.g., Clio or similar case management
    systems)
  • Prior experience in family law strongly preferred, but not required
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred, but not required
Work Environment:
  • Small firm focused on family law matters (1-5 employees)
  • Normal business hours: Monday-Friday 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
